Everyone knows that exercise is good for you, but just what sort of exercise is the best? Studies have shown that swimming, one of the easiest and most enjoyable forms of exercise, is also one of the most beneficial for your overall well-being. There are a many reasons people take up swimming, whether it is for their health, their enjoyment, or even to protect themselves and their loved ones in the advent of an emergency. Luckily it is not hard to learn, and there are many schools all over the UK who have dedicated instructors willing to take you through the learning process.
It is not surprising that a number of schools throughout the UK are now incorporating swimming into the sporting curriculum, with the aim of improving the health of their students and their awareness of water safety. Although pool-related accidents are not as common in the UK as they are in hotter climates, there are still a large number of water-related accidents (in rivers, canals, ponds and lakes, and at the beach), which could have been prevented had there been a greater awareness of swimming safety. It is important that everyone knows at least the basics of staying safe in the water, even if they are not a regular swimmer – you simply never know when an emergency may arise. Fortunately, learning to swim and being taught about water safety is usually an incredibly enjoyable experience, and most kids (and adults) are happy to take part.
